I believe I was born to be a counsellor. I am naturally very empathetic and non- judgemental. I have overcome many personal challenges throughout my life, and belive each and every obstacle was put there to help me relate to others later in my counselling career. I am patient, and have been told on numerous occasions I am both warm, and friendly.
With a history of working in the mental health field, with people of all ages and abilities and later becoming a fully qualified counsellor I’ve helped many clients break through the obstacles that seem to be holding them back in life. I've worked with victims of domestic violence, individuals with complex mental health illnesses, in a palliative care setting, with substance misuse, alongside individuals suffering with eating disorders, anxiety, depression and much more. I genuinely like people. I understand that we are all very different and wholly embrace that.
My integritive style of training enables me to use many different approches of therapy, as I recognise that "one size" certainly does not fit all. In fact, I would honestly say that I have never worked with two clients in the same way. I sometimes use art therapies in my work. Other times, a more traditional approach is more appropriate.
I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) And I work strictly within their ethical framework. I honour the trust placed in me by clients, and strive to treat everyone equally and fairly.

I believe that each and every one of us has the potential to know what is best for us. Using a person centred approach, we will work to your agenda, in a very non directive manner, helping you to reconnect with your own values and sense of self worth, helping you find your own way forward.
A psychodynamic approach brings the unconscious mind into consciousness - I will help you to unravel, experience and understand your true, deep-rooted feelings in order to resolve them.

What is counselling?
Counselling should always provide a safe, impartial and confidential space in which to explore your feelings. Talking to a professional in a confidential setting, and safe in the knowledge that what you say will be respectfully listened to, will often help you to understand what is making you feel a certain way.
All of us at some point in our lives will experience times when we feel that we are overwhelemd or cannot cope. These feelings often impact on other areas of our life. These feelings may affect our academic studies, our relationship with others, or our personal life, to the extent that we feel unable to live in a successful or satisfactory way. This may be the time to seek out a counsellor.
Feelings such as anger, grief, anxiety and loneliness can be distressing and cause anguish, especially if they have been with us for a long period of time. Counselling can help you to explore and reflect upon these feelings. It can help you to understand what is at the root of the concern, and can help you to work towards resolving these difficulties.
What happens in a counselling session?
Counselling is not advice and may feel different from other types of help. It is a process where I can help you to explore and understand difficulties, and then help you to develop your own resources to cope with them. I will always treat you with respect and treat your concerns with sensitivity. You will be carefully listened to, and at the end of counselling there is usually a better understanding of how to cope with both existing and future difficulties.
At present, I work from a residential address, and also from an office in Gravesend town centre. Sessions will last 50 minutes and are usually weekly. Where possible, sessions are the same day and time every week, as experience has shown that consistency aids the theraputic process.
In some circumstances I will see clients in their own home or conduct sessions by telephone. This would have to be discussed in advance.
How much does counselling cost?
The cost of counselling varies a great deal from different agencies. At Gravesham Counselling Service you can guarantee a competive rate.
One to one counselling starts at £40*
Couples counselling, starts at £50*.
Our first meeeting will be a no obligation assessment session, and will take at least 1 hour. This session allows us to look at your particular struggles and how we can work together to move you forward. This will be charged at the usual fee, despite often taking a little longer than a usual session.
Sessions thereafter will be 50 minute sessions weekly for one to one counselling, and 60 minutes for couples.
Costs depend on individual circumstances, location of sessions, and day / time of sessions.
Fees are negotiable for those on very low incomes. I provide counselling at a low cost service, but these appointments are limited, and may be subject to a waiting list.
Evening appointments are also subject to availability, and usually at a slightly higher rate.
At present I am unable to offer any weekend appointments.

I work from two premises, A purpose built therapy room in Gravesend town centre, (easily accessible by public transport) with evening availability... and a residential address on Christianfields Avenue, near Valley drive.
Both buildings have ample parking facilities close by.
